The Strip + Penn & Teller
Category: Excursions

New York New York hotel. I wish we had pink buildings in NY!
“The Strip” is Vegas’ equivalent of Times Square, only bigger – make that Times Triple or Times Quintuple! This is Times Square that goes on and on for blocks and blocks, each hotels representing its own theme. There is a cute castle (Excalibur), skyline of NYC (New York New York), Bellagio with a gorgeous water show at night, the Paris hotel complete with a replica of the Eiffel Tower. We took a stroll down The Strip last night and were bombarded with night club invitations and call girls flyers! In spite of all this, I get a feeling that Vegas does sleep – there are a few hours in the early morning, which I get to witness being still on New York time, when the streets are suspiciously empty.

The Excalibur Hotel
We wrapped up the night with seeing Penn & Teller at The Rio hotel. Penn Gilette and Teller are our favorite skeptics/’magicians with a psychotic twist’ whom you may know by their TV show Bullshit! (it focuses on debuking pseudo-scientific myths). Their live performance is famous for not just doing the tricks, but revealing the illusion! I just wish they’d revealed how they’d sewn that woman in half…

I got to briefly meet Penn and Teller after the show. I can’t believe these guys perform 6 nights a week and still have the stamina to stand out there and sign autographs! Penn is the ridiculously tall one (6’7″) with long hair. That man is as insane in real life as he is on TV! And Teller is the ‘short’ one who turned out to be not so short after all – I am 5’2″, for a reference, and he is a good 4 inches taller. By the way, Teller is one of the few people with a US passport issued in a single name – he officially changed his name to be just his last name!

I live in Vegas, and it’s pretty dang fun! Penn’s kids go to school with my little friend I babysit and he is a really nice guy. Their show is awesome. Don’t forget to stop at the seedy Freakin Frog bar. They have some of the worlds best beers, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at the place from outside.

I need to get over to Vegas and see their show. The last (and only!) time I was in Vegas I was 19 (legal gambling/drinking age is 21 there) and with my parents. NOT the way to experience the city!

Vegas looks outrageous, it must be hard to see and do everything it has to offer. I would love to check it out one day. Have fun!

I live in Vegas (originaly from NY and moving back to Ny in Feb.)
I can tell you that if you are looking for something really delightful to eat thats off strip, funky, elegant, delicious and fun then you should ask your hotel concierge about a place called “Firefly”. Its a tapas bar that serves amazing food and has the best Sangria you will ever have. They also have another place next door by the same owner called “Dragonfly” which is an Asian tapas bar and again very delightful.
I highly reccomend you check out Freemont Street as it is the best part of Vegas. Its copmpletely vintage looking and they have great Magaritas.
The best place to eat on the Strip in in the Paris hotel called “Mon Ami Gabi”, its a Parisian bistro…..I will miss it very much when I move.
If you need any more tips feel free to text me @ 516-459-4001

I absolutely love Vegas!! The food and shows are all worth the trip there, not to mention the shopping lol. And all the different styles of hotels are so interesting. Although I haven’t been back there in a few years I hope to make future all girl trip of it in the near future(hopefully). On a side note, you look just stunning Doe!! I looooove the outfit! I’m so jealous but in a good way :D

Seems like a great time! My parents are only 3 hours away from Vegas in California… I can’t believe I have never been there before. Enjoy your trip!

If you go to the Hoover Dam be careful of cramping up. When my parents went down to Vegas they went to the Dam, and could barely get out of the car because they had been walking so much in Vegas and then the long sit in the car… just froze up their muscles.
I am very jealous of you right now!

I’m jealous! I adore Penn, he’s the one figure from the media who has made me feel alright and even human when I was dealing with coming out about my alternative relationship. I learned about them for the first time in their episode “Family Values” back in 2005 and was misty-eyed, since it was covering the topic of polyamory.
You’re so lucky! :)

I love Vegas! I stayed at the MGM Grand in the West Wing and it was lovely.
We also saw Penn and Teller when we were there. I got to go on stage for the trick with the glasses and the cinder block.
I love your makeup and outfit. Stunning.

Wait, wait, wait…. you’re 5′ 2″ and you do modeling?? Well then, that’s a big inspiration to me!! *is about 2 inches taller with a similar build and penchant for unique fashion*
I’m glad you had such a good time at the show… your description of the magic-revealing really reminds me of the Discover Channel show, “Mythbusters”! ^^v
