New York winters tend to be cold and windy, and linger too much. By the end of February, I’m ready for spring! My mind is fixated on sunshine, pretty heels and flower blossoms – even if I have to get fake ones! This antique frame in the picture came from a hotel that was going out of business and selling off stuff. It used to contain a mirror which fell out under its own weight; but the frame remained. I decorated it with lights and flowers to symbolize the welcoming of her majesty, Spring.

I love this skirt. Must have worn it on a hundred occasions.

Unicorn tights were custom-made by my friend Gilda!
I can’t wait to be able to wear pretty stuff again – coats, berets, colorful tights, neon lipstick. When magnolia blossoms fall, I will take a stroll down my street feeling rejuvenated and free…
Deerlings: What do you look forward to the most in the spring?

Beautiful.
I absolutely adore the tights, but why do you need warm weather to wear neon lipsticks? I say wear them whenever you want. The rest I do understand though, heels and slush do not mix.
I look forward to bright colors, dancing around the maypole, ribbons, love, skipping through fields of flowers and eating berries off the bush where they grow wild. Out here in Southern California there’s not really a winter just a few weeks of cold. I’ve been wearing skimpy clothes and shivering a little but I don’t care, I just wanna look cute!
Such a cute photoshoot!! Now I really can’t wait for spring!! I love the bright colors in spring and when the plants start to bloom!!
(sorry but, the animals on your tights arent actually unicorns ;-) they are merry-goround-horses)
But I love this colourful look. Its amazing to watch how your style changes.

Actually, they ARE unicorns! You just can’t see the horn very well. :) Believe it or not, Gilda designed that fabric herself.
“What do you look forward to the most in the spring?”
Planting my garden. I currently already started growing tomatoes, peppers and herbs inside my apartment (will be planting more sees inside this weekend) but I can’t wait until my plants are big enough to plant outside this Spring. Last spring/summer was the first time my bf and I had our own urban garden and it was awesome. Watching seeds grow into plants that you can eat is amazing.

That sounds awesome! I need to try and replant some sunflowers, I tried doing that ages ago but they died :[

I would love some tips on how to start an urban garden! We have no yard but we have a great 2nd story deck that gets some sun!

Even if you don’t have a yard you can grow veggies/herbs in containers on a porch. You just need to make sure they will get enough sun and water and that the container is big enough for the roots to grow. I live in a 3rd floor apartment and we grew tomatoes on our porch. We used those topsy turvy veggie hangers and hung them from the ceiling of our porch. They grew very well.
We technically don’t have a yard but there was a small area near our parking lot & garage that we took over. We made two raised bed gardens (each are about 7 X 2 feet) and made an outdoor compost bin out of recycled wood. Those basically took up the whole area so you don’t need a lot of space. We also have an indoor compost bin so once that gets full we bring it outside. I also have a pet rabbit so I compost her litter box and that in return gives me excellent naturally fertilized soil. And in return for her poops she gets to eat most of the stuff we grow in the garden. :)
Having a garden is awesome because home grown veggies taste better and it cut down our food bill in the summer. Plus you know exactly where they grew and that they are organic. And if you need herbs to cook with it’s great to just have to go outside to the garden and pick some.
From my experience the plants we grew from seeds grew better then the plants we bought at a garden store. So this year we are starting everything via seeds. If you do that you need to start them indoors now so they are big enough to move outside in spring. And it’s amazing what you can get out of a small garden. Last summer we got tomotoes, cucumbers, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, hot peppers, carrots, tarragon, basil, lettuce, parsley, chives, dill, cilantro and two kinds of squash. And we are still eating the squash we grew during the summer.
There is a great community on live journal called apartmentgarden that is full of good info.

Also…
If you live in an urban area of a city, look into community garden programs. Most cities have them. I was going to pay for an area in a community garden if we weren’t able to use that outdoor space near my garage. It’s not expensive either. It’s a great option for people who live in a city but want a space to garden.

That does sound like a fantastic idea! :D
For us Houstonians and Texans for that matter, we’ve been having a strange winter? It SNOWED 3 times this year, with a decent amount. I know its not alot, and I was in Michigan for four years, but this was very strange as we need either a hurricane or a tropical storm to provide us with snow and we didn’t have either this past summer. So whatever is going on, it definitely is strange, I woke up with 2.5 inches of snow on my car, and its now 55 degrees with no snow o.O I’m so ready for spring. I just can’t wait to wear nice not heavy coats for spring, enjoy the cool air till the sun decides not leave for the giant 8 months of summer!
In all honesty, what I can’t wait for is to have my windows in the car rolled down with no A/C on. By mid April here its already getting towards the upper 90s and the humidity has already settled so my skin goes in to shock, my hair is flat and its so hot, you just don’t want to dress cute in because the heat reacts with your makeup and either melts or cakes it onto your face -.-
If I could keep the Houston area at 75 – 80 degrees year round, I’d be one happy person.

Houston sounds amazing! I’d love to visit one day, even if just for the beautiful spring. :)
I adore every piece of this look! really fun, whimsical and full of colour! I just can’t get over those shoes, though. they are amazing :D how do you walk in them? they look so high!
also did you make the skirt yourself? and if so, how hard was it to put together? I want to make one of my own.
I love the tights!!
Your hair looks amazing!

Thanks! Do you ever miss having long hair? Your short cut looks stunning though.
I couldn’t agree more! I am sick of Colorado snow by now – I want it to be spring so I can wear skirts and dresses again, not have to carry a jacket everywhere, and spend more time outside!
And you look darling, by the way. Your style is so eclectic, yet it always works so well! I love how everything here has been customized until its exactly what you want it to be [:
I love how some of the clothing featured over the past while have all come together in this look – the skirt, the shoes, the jersey.
Also, I am absolutely, insanely in love with that frame. I adore all Baroque-style framed things (I have a white board with an actual white frame, but I really want an oval mirror with silver frame :]).
Hmm, I’m most looking forward to the sun coming back, being able to go out in light clothes again, and of course the summer holiday! I finally get to go see my family that lives on the other side of the world in the summer (although it means that I’ll be flying straight back into the southern hemisphere winter, BOO!).
warmth! and i miss having energy to do all sorts of stuff with my friends again. and i miss those lon evenings outdoor, you know after dinner, just talking until it’s too dark to see :)
i don’t like winter. there’s too much snow and cold…
What a beautiful outfit!! love everything from it! and what a long pretty hair! I look forward to the better weather in Spring and the light and the longer days, I dont like grey ugly short days!!! kisses!!
OMG You look so pretty!
Spring gets me excited for more sunshine and less snow. Warmth. Happy colors. And shopping for lots of pretty sundresses in great hues!
Love those leggings! What I like about spring is cherry blossoms. :)

Ah, those are my FAVORITE! I’m so glad you reminded me of them, GLEEEE!!!
Doe, I have a suggestion of what you should add inside the box! You should include cards with the fable of each product perhaps? or some business cards?

No daffodils in Vegas? How sad. :(
Ah, your hair is so big and voluptuous and pretty. Love it.
I look foward to the blooming of beautiful flowers, spring showers and pastels.
Your hair looks amazing! That braided hair band is so cute- I want one. Gorgeous.

I got it from Princess de la Coiffure – they are very reasonably priced too!
Gorgeous shoot. The photography (and you) are wonderful. I love spring because of the sun, gorgeous blue skies, and everything blooming everywhere!
It’s always such a delight to see your colorful photos in the middle of winter!
Admittedly, I live in CA so I’m not suffering TOO much, but we haven’t had a non-overcast day in a while.
I’m looking forward to feeling warm enough to walk out of doors! There are tons of my favorite trees in bloom: plum, cherry, almond and tulip trees, and I love to walk underneath them, surrounded by quaint old houses. I’m also looking forward to visiting one of my favorite cemeteries in the area. It’s incredibly lush and green, and the tombs look like something out of Lord of the Rings.
your hair is so beautiful in these pics speshly the first one and I love the frame what a great find ^_^
Oh and every time I see those shoes I go sooo green with envy
Those tights are just amazing! and they look so cute with your shoes too
I look forward to the colors of spring. They’re all so bright and cheery, unlike the coldness of winter.
I look forward to not having to bundle up to go anywhere. being able to wear skirts and pretty dresses without your legs freezing

I know! I’m so sick of having to wear wool tights and thick sweaters. Right now, I’m stuck in this dreadful turtleneck – and to add insult to injury, it’s SNOWING OUTSIDE!!
I am looking foward to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC (I live about 20 minutes away, in VA), and spring season means Renaissance Faires are starting up again!
I hate having to bundle up, and I’m itching to get all of my floaty little gypsy skirts out of the closet without wool tights!
I love how you’re not afraid to be seen in the same thing twice!! That is SO refreshing to me, especially from someone in that industry. You usually seem to pair favorite pieces with different things to get a different look, but when you find (or make) something you love, you actually wear it more than once and don’t care if people recognize it from a past photo…you rock!!
I love those pictures! So beautiful.
Love the tights and skirt!
awww xenia!!! those leggings/supertight tights look amazing on you!! i’m so happy!! thank you for wearing them, i couldn’t think of a better person to give them to, knowing how much you love unicorns as much as i do. actually no, you probably love them more.
is that your house? it’s mad insane. love it.
Nice Turquoise Baby Bows ;)
What do I look forward to most in spring?
It would have to be the warmth…I love cold weather, it means I get to have a fire, but here in Mississippi it goes from freezing to balmy one day to the next. Spring is a general all over warmth…not too hot, not too cold. Perfection. I love the colors that come alive.
It also means it’s time to go out to the islands once again. The sunsets are beautiful, full of my favorite colors. (:
i am dying to know who designed those high-heels… they are LOVELY! i’d give away all the shoes i own just to have a pair of those >.< they are so cute!!!
your such a doll ;]

What about the skirt?! I LOVE the skirt! I only found this website fairly recently and I don’t know if you mentioned were you got it already….. but…. Where did you get it?
I love your hair! So pretty-are you wearing your hair as a real braided headband or do you have one in? Either way it looks so lovely
