Weekly Glee – April 09, 2009
Category: Weekly Glee

Image via Flickr
Hello, Spring! Thank you for the sun, the birds, my pink coat and driving gloves! For being able to walk outside without freezing my head off. My thoughts have been wildly preoccupied with images of fabulous lipsticks, exciting new people and marvelous opportunities. If you took a look inside my head right now, it would look like this!

Floral coronet by Sally Kingston
- Coronets
It’s still a little early to be running around fields collecting wild flowers, but until then there are very realistic-looking coronets. Do you know if anyone else makes them, aside from Sally?
- Spring Fashion Fairy Tales
Snow White, Thumbelina & Cinderella are invading the Fashion Town!
- Good girls gone bad
And I don’t mean just Rihanna. Russian Elle magazine did a spread called Oops, I Did It Again. The captions are great: “Straight-A student, good daughter. She secretly gets tattoos and eventually runs off with a rocker. Why do good girls always end up with bad boys?”
Wait, is that Lady Gaga’s hair bow?!
Is a great article by Gala Darling on dangers (not!) of having sex on the first date. Ladies, read up!
- 666 Photography
These guys blow my mind. Their high-concept shoots will change your creative thinking forever!
- Creative simplicity
Normally, I like big productions, but this video is alluring in its simplicity. It’s a stop-motion animation that was shot frame by frame – one room, one bed. Isn’t it wonderful?
Oren Lavie: Her Morning Elegance
- My Happy Town
I want to build a town filled with colorful roofs. Gray paint only for accents;brown, black & beige (along with other yucky colors) are banned forever! People wear purple coats, blue berets and orange stockings. And glittery shoes – lots of glittery shoes! Allowed hair colors include: red, white, black, pink, purple or any other unnatural color. Citizens freelance as designers, performers or run their own bakery; other permitted jobs include architect, milliner, makeup artist. People ride bikes or use electrical street cars (no gas-operated vehicles here!).
My Happy Town is laid out on an island and is only accessible through a baby-pink bridge. Toll: 5 lollipops!!!
What are you daydreaming about?

Love the 666 Photography, but PLEASE tell me you’ve heard of Pierre et Gilles! They are the ultimate in high-concept, fantasmical, (sometimes riquè) stylized photo art. Each piece is exquisitely staged with sets, hair and make-up, the photo is taken, and then painted on to give it an even more out-of-this-realm appearance. Please do a post on them!
Some samples are here, though they’ve done hundreds if not thousands of images since the ’70s.

I got to see their work in real life once and was in glee-land for weeks after…

The Russian Elle shoot is utterly fabulous. They picked the perfect model for the role, if you ask me – she’s got that innocent look in her eye, even when she’s scowling.

I’d move into your town as well…it sound pretty lovely to me.=) Although I would have to dye my hair again. It used to be dark purple, but it’s just natural brown now with a hint of purple here and there. Oh and those houses sound really sound awesome. I’ve always wanted to paint my house a bright fun color, but my parents always say it won’t look right. Well we’ll see what happens when I get my own house!! =) Oh and yeah I’ve seen that music video before…it’s really beautiful!!Great weekly glee doe…you sure brought some glee into my week today!!! =)

As a Cinderella imitator for children’s birthday parties, it’s nice to see that my work uniform is in the vogue for this spring. haha.

I hear you on that banned hair color requirement in your town. Every person must dye their hair and black, brown, blonde and natural red hair colors are banned! (although bright reds and yellows, tinted browns, and blueish-purplish-blacks are permitted). Wouldn’t that be interesting? Oh yeah, and everyone must dress as if they were attending a party every single day. The highest paid job would be a street musician. No running allowed – only skipping.

Just found your blogazine yesterday. Thank you for all you do here. Thumbelina was one of my favorite stories as a child. I know the top picture is in Ventura, but at first glance it reminded me of New Hope, PA. If you ever get a chance to go there, it is truly a magical place. I am daydreaming of green boots and finding flowers in unexpected places…

Oh please I would love to live in Happy Town. I dream of owning my own house one day and painting it bright stripes inside and have an amazing pink paintjob on the outside. And an amazing garden to run about in! The world would be so much brighter if the houses were colourful and flowers growing everywhere!
Agree with Stephanie on the skipping too. Fastest way to travel on your feet.
