It’s been a while since I did a Weekly Glee full of linkety-link goodness. Here’s some stuff to keep you inspired, entertained and educated!
- Did you notice that fashion magazines are sucking lately? What happened to those issues of Nylon, Vogue and W that we all wanted to hold on to and refer to for years to come? Fashion expert Glendy offers a side-by-side comparison of the conteporary magazines and an explaination why they are dying a slow death, in her article The Endangered Fashion Magazine.
- Korean Vogue Girl might just be the last standing amongst the dying breed. Now that’s fashion done right!
- Padmita’s Twinkling Stars is the best makeup tutorial I’ve ever seen. Sparkly glee!!!
- Apparently, I’m not the only one disturbed by Michelle Obama‘s overplucked and over-arched eyebrows. Why give our lovely First Lady such an unnecessarily angry expression? Luckily, her makeup artist finally got the message. Whew.
- Remember my article Do women dress to attract men? I found a hilarious counterpart called Do men dress to attract women? Haha.
- The season of best deals is almost here – and here are some Flea Market tips for your reading pleasure. I’m planning some serious house redecorating this summer and can’t wait to go – I mean, who doesn’t love hunting for hidden treasures on the cheap?!
- The Unicorn Diaries is the cutest blog on the face of the Internet. Period.
- The making of Marie Antoinette – Elyse Regan re-created a full-out historical costume for a party… from scratch. After reading this article, I was inspired to buy myself a tall, white wig!
- A gloomy realization came over me the other day: people are afraid of color. Yes, they fear and avoid it. Why? Because it’s harder to match than blacks & browns? To me, color is such a beautiful thing. A simple splash of yellow or orange can change your mood from blah to superduperexcited in 0.2 seconds. So let there be more spreads like this space age-y, high fashion technicolor editorial!
Deerlings: what’s keeping you inspired this week? Share with us!

I am not afraid of color…I do love bright colors on the eyes and try to everyday….I would love to wear more clothes of colors but can never decide what is good to purchase and how to wear it….
I’ve been inspired by CDs I’ve loved but haven’t listened to in a while. Call me old fashioned, but I love popping in a CD and letting it play. mp3 files are great, but it just doesn’t give you the “Let me go through my CD pile… oooo, I used to love this but haven’t listened to it in a while, let’s try this again!”
… And sadly, yes, I’ve noticed the fashion magazines going down the drain. I collect photos of inspiring outfits.. but recently I’d be lucky if I can even find one photo I like… strange cause the magazines are getting thicker to attract more people.
The twinkling stars are so cute!
One thing that always keeps me inspired is actually your blog. It’s always full of awesome!!!
Speaking of awesome, I want to share with you what I did to my sister this weekend. She was going to a 50′s party, so I helped her get ready, from hair to makeup, and a bit with her clothes(only the leggings are hers, the rest is mine lol).

That NYT article is a HOOT!
Actually, this week, the color black and my vintage cameo brooch have been inspiring me. Now, if only I could find a good quality pair of black lace gloves…!!
Also, Korean Vogue for the WIN. Every time I come across one of their articles, I find myself inspired. :) I need to figure out a way to subscribe to their magazine! :D
Colors inspire me, i love color and i am a very colorful person. I’m attracted to all things colorful like a moth to a flame. lol! Um it Also depends what i am doing, different things give me different inspiration, it also depends on my mood and how much i let something inspire me. Most times i can’t help but let my inspiration take it’s own shape.
On days i feel like i have “no inspiration” i still think i do, being un-inspired is inspiration in itself. I’m rumbling and probably don’t make any sense , but anyhow hope you are having a lovely day so far!
You know, I have a closet full of really cute and trendy clothes and shoes but for awhile I haven’t made the effort so my routine has become to just throw jeans and a T-shirt on, mainly because with a baby it’s harder to spend the time I need on putting a cute outfit together. We’ll that is until I stop by at http://www.seaofshoes.com, if you haven’t checked out this site run over to it, this girl inspires me to pull out all of my cute clothes and get back into the fashion savvy life again.
Wow, thanks so much for including me in your Weekly Glee, what an honour ♥!! Love the Miles Aldrigde shots too, he’s such an awesome fashion photographer!
I would like to share the works of three of the most awesome and inspirational photographers I know, and who’ve always been a huge inspiration to me:

Enjoy!
I do love Korea’s Vogue Girl, and I agree that fashion mags just aren’t the same anymore. I used to wait anxiously for my mags to come in but now I’m barely subscribed to anything. I just pick something up from the bookstore if it looks like I actually want to read it. :/
And that Twinkling Stars tutorial was awesome. I would so wear that out to the club or a great party. :D
What’s keeping me inspired this week? The end credits to Slumdog Millionaire:

Actually, you’ve been the inspiration. I looked in my closet the other day and all I saw at the surface was black, black, and more black. I looked under the surface and there existed a myriad of coloured shirts from years long past and I thought where did all my colour go. What happened these past two years to make me cling to black like a second skin?
And then I stumbled onto your blog, completely by accident and I was so inspired I come back to check whats going on every single day. It was definately a wake up call. It even became a goal to fill my wardrobe with colour this spring.
So thank you!
I LOVE bright colors, but about 2 years ago (the last time I did some *serious* shopping), I decided that I needed some darker clothing to balance things out, and now, that’s all I have to wear!!
I agree about the fashion magazines but I came across “Interview” at a library and I every page caught my eye. I actually wanted to subscribe to it which rarely happens.
About the Twinkling Stars tutorial… I was always told that non-cosmetic glitter, especially big particles like those, were bad to put around the eyes, as they could get in and scratch your eyes really bad. But I lovelovelove all of her other tutorials! I cant wait to try some of them.
Sea creatures are keeping me inspired this week, of all things! I went to the Vancouver Aquarium yesterday and scoped out frogs, fish, otters, belugas, and starfish that are of the brightest colours I have ever seen! I recommend aquarium adventures for all :)
i’m keeping my creativity in shape by doing a research on Fairies and their status in Greek myths and stories. Its about a design project for School. we’ll see how that turns out…
glitter and autumn leaves, the good fairy godmother and malevolent fairies stealing children…there’s two sides in every story…
My inspiration was weather actually. It is so sunny here in Amsterdam and it made me think off my summer clothes and I remembered some things that I had and some shoes I had and I dug them out of my closet :D wearing bright colours again :D
also a little notice on your “do women dress for men” article: well I dress for myself, but sometimes I let men feel like I’m wearing for them ;]
xxx
Great post! Going through my fabric stash is inspiring me this week–even thought it’s still winter, I made a string bikini top! In rainbow colors!
That ‘Do men dress to attract women?’ article was fantastic! And you know something, I strongly feel that men should start thinking to themselves, ‘What would Elvis wear?’ or James Dean and Humphrey Bogart.
ah i love color so much!
{hence why i’m in love with your entire blog}
but yes. monday night i was finally allowed to dye the under half of my hair red and i’m enthralled by it.
i’ve been wearing extra funky coordinated outfits this week just to match my hair C:
I figured this would make you full of GLEE as well. Or perhaps you’ll just find it silly.

I’ve got this theory that the fashion magazines have been sucking lately because of the recession (pinching pennies and pushing more ads for the revenue). And yes, I understand that in these times it’s more savvy to be a “recessionista,” but I remember in the 80s that people were falling on hard times then (not as bad as now, though) and still getting more creative with fashion.
Doe Deere, you and your blog keep me inspired. Keep up the good work, girl!
Honestly, my students inspire me. As corny as it sounds, they really do. Maybe one day, a student will come in with an interesting nail color, and combine it with a weird looking other contrast color. From there, I write it down in a little “inspiration book” where I’ll go through my makeup later, and make it into an eye look. Other times, I look at their accessories, and try to figure out some new and interesting way to use them.
One day I saw a girl with a cute little bowler hat on her head, it was sized for a small doll. It had a piece of ribbon, and a feather on it. I asked her where she got it from (Hot Topic for $8.50!!!!!), and proceeded to see if I could try that same look at a fraction of the cost. I work part time at the Hobby Lobby Framing Department, and (using my discount nonetheless) purchased a mini top hat, ribbon, feathers and plastic combs (from the wedding aisle for wedding veils) and made my own little hat at a fraction of the cost! Not only that, I wore it to a concert, where the Vermillion Lies sisters saw it, and wanted one as well. So I handed them the mini hat and said I could make more and that they could share! I told them a student inspired me for this!
I love bright colors and shiny things!!!!!!
>:-)
I’m sorry other posters but Xenia is the most beautiful girl in the world, and she sparkles bitches. She sparkles!!!
