Honestly, my students inspire me. As corny as it sounds, they really do. Maybe one day, a student will come in with an interesting nail color, and combine it with a weird looking other contrast color. From there, I write it down in a little "inspiration book" where I'll go through my makeup later, and make it into an eye look. Other times, I look at their accessories, and try to figure out some new and interesting way to use them.

One day I saw a girl with a cute little bowler hat on her head, it was sized for a small doll. It had a piece of ribbon, and a feather on it. I asked her where she got it from (Hot Topic for $8.50!!!!!), and proceeded to see if I could try that same look at a fraction of the cost. I work part time at the Hobby Lobby Framing Department, and (using my discount nonetheless) purchased a mini top hat, ribbon, feathers and plastic combs (from the wedding aisle for wedding veils) and made my own little hat at a fraction of the cost! Not only that, I wore it to a concert, where the Vermillion Lies sisters saw it, and wanted one as well. So I handed them the mini hat and said I could make more and that they could share! I told them a student inspired me for this!

I've got this theory that the fashion magazines have been sucking lately because of the recession (pinching pennies and pushing more ads for the revenue). And yes, I understand that in these times it's more savvy to be a "recessionista," but I remember in the 80s that people were falling on hard times then (not as bad as now, though) and still getting more creative with fashion.

Doe Deere, you and your blog keep me inspired. Keep up the good work, girl!
