Weekly Glee – October 17 2008

Got GLEE?

Photo: Tom Hines

Another fantastic week! Time to share some of my GLEE with you, dollface! Here’s what’s making me GLEE my pants today:

  • Realizing that my friend’s girlfriends all had names indicating a color.

Rosy, Hazel and Magenta (yes!) all dated Daniel at one point. But things didn’t work out how they were supposed to, and now my friend is quickly running out of options: all that’s left is Jade and Scarlet. Or so he thinks. Post other color names and help secure Daniel’s dating future!!!

(Real deal. The color names were just a demented twist of fate, I fear.)

  • Starting One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell.

Huge fan of Candace’s writing style. Huge! I call her the J.K. Rowling of girly novel. The book was originally purchased from reading an excerpt in Vogue, with full expectations of yet another piece of frivolous, but oh-so-enjoyable fiction. 70 pages deep, I’m realizing it to be much more than that – perhaps even a prospective Bible to a young female New Yorker! I’ll talk about it more when I’m done reading. :)

If you’re into makeup, you cannot afford to miss this!!

  • Katy Perry: Hot N Cold

Katy is  a Dreamgirl who has a new video out – and it’s fan-fuckin’-tastic! The zebra in the end made my brain explode into a thousand pieces…

Katy Perry – Hot N Cold

If you haven’t seen Katy’s I Kissed A Girl, watch it now!

Brought to you by the one and only, The Onion! :)

  • Harajuru Lovers perfume ads

Because they look like this! 4 new perfumes by Gwen Stefani – has anyone tried them yet? I haven’t but am very tempted to. :)

And last but not least, the fact that I’m going to the Pinup Pumpkin Carving Shoot tomorrow night is making me extremely gleeful! A bunch of top-notch models and photographers are getting together in a studio to shoot, carve pumpkins and have fun – and I feel incredibly grateful to be invited!

Deerlings: come now. Unleash your GLEE onto this blog!

P.S. Is this edible?!

The yarn on the cupcakes looks to be molding chocolate or fondant, and in either case, YUP! its edible!!

I adore Katy Perry, and I adore the video for I Kissed a Girl just a little bit more.

and tell Daniel that he doesnt need to worry, if paint companies keep it up they will start using famous peoples names to describe their paint colors.
‘Oh I love your knew walls! What color?’ (walls painted a bright pink)
‘oh its Doe Deere by Benjerman Moore.

  • Clara says:

The ads for the perfume as beautiful, and the bottles looks so cute!

Miss Stam fills me with glee and is being my inspiration for my illustration which I am rushing to finish. If you’re gonna rush at least rush looking at pretty.

And filling me with more glee is realising I get to see my other half on Monday instead of in a week and a half. Whoop! Nice suprise.

Ahh thank you for the glee posts, they are a delightful and welcome break in the madness, and make me stop for a moment and think of happy things.

  • Clara says:

Question about the cakes, yes they’re edible, but would you want to eat such tiny pieces of sugary art?

  • Shayne says:

OMG! I need to go to Sephora asap to get one of those perfumes. So cute!
I just hope they smell good. I’m thinking I might like Love the best.

    Ps. Beautiful Photo!

  • I’ve been so digging Hot N’ Cold for a few weeks now… I listen to it too much every day!

  • Kit says:

Yes yes yes! Katy Perry = Amazing!!!!

Hmmm color names…Amber, Coral, Ebony, Violet, Saffron ( go Firefly!) Ivory, Tangerine (I’m not kidding, I have a friend with that name)

  • joy says:

I gave the Harajuru Lovers perfumes some sniffs. They all smelled nice, but none really caught me. I feel like they were all pretty strong scents, no subtle notes.

  • WendyB says:

I’ve always loved the word “magenta.”

  • Samantha Darko says:

First I think that you can eat the models hair at the John Galliano show. It looks like yummy pulled taffy and cotton candy, so sweet amd pretty and childlike.
It actually makes me think of the Harajuku Lovers perfumes. they remind me of being little and covered in sticky candy from the penny candy store (not that it ever cost a penny when I was little).

oh those are totally edible and if I can ever find the picture of the Ace of Cakes, Knitting Baskey Cake you would convulse with the cuteness!

  • Emma F says:

My nan’s name is Olive, and her sister is Ruby. Sadly the other sister is Celia, although I think she might have the middle name Violet!

  • Vixel says:

I fall in love with perfumes primarily because I like the bottle, so I have got to give that a try sometime!

  • Lynn says:

Azure is another color, I have a friend with that name.

I have heard a lot of “floral” names lately too…they seem to be making a comeback.

  • I love the Harijuku ads. So cute!

    Luv
    Poochie

  • Redd says:

    Hmm… I hope I’m safe, my name is Redd! And I know a Teal…

  • Jen says:

A few other color names: Beige, Mauve, Goldie, Sandy, Tawny, Sienna. ;)

  • Miss Karen says:

The make up for the Galliano show is absoltely astounding! I love it so much!

And I must say, Katy Perry is certainly growing on me – I didnt really take to her in the beginning but I’m growing fond of her by the day!

  • Jessica says:

I love Katy Perry! I never cared much for ‘Ur So Gay’ but Hot N Cold was my favourite song off her album. I’m so happy she made a (pretty awesome) video for it!

I found the Harajuku Lovers fragrances to be rather disappointing though. The containers are the most adorable things in the world and the ads are gorgeous but the only ones I liked were Music, and I think Lil’ Angel. The rest were awful ):

I remember seeing someone make those knitting decorations on Martha Stewart (or some other similar show, but I’m pretty sure it was Martha Stewart’s) They were made out of marzipan and therefore edible, but I don’t know if I could bring myself to eat them!

As for colour names, there are also Blanche and Bianca :D

  • Meruan says:

Like Jessica saying “Blanche and Bianca”, I was going to mention that you can have all the colors in other languages! Blanca, Violeta, Violette, Esmeralda, Rubí, etc.

  • Kellee says:

I love the song Hot N Cold. The beginning of it makes me think of myself.. (well, mostly the line that goes “You PMS like a bitch, I would know” .. >.< lol

That makeup was terrific! You gonna try some out?(I know I want to!)

  • Melanie says:

I have always wanted to name my children after colours; Ebony & Amber are two you have missed.

  • Elizbeth says:

ohh Galliano’s makeup is always EXQUISITE AND EXTRAORDINARY!! it’s like Jem and the Holograms on SPEED! oh yeah, and that whole Mattel thing is RIDICULOUS. if anything, Barbie is just encouraging young girls to be WHATEVER they want! (you can’t tell i’m going as my idol Barbie for Halloween or anything… haha =D )

  • Catherine says:

”This doll furthers the myth that if a woman works hard and sticks to her guns, she can rise to the top”
    the MYTH!!??!!
Woah… Im speechless.. Well, I actually have a lot to say, but I cant express myself properly in English… (I speak French :D)
I’ve been thru your whole blog and i’m in love with it! Cant wait to see more :)

  • Kat says:

Hm, color names. Kelly is a color of green, Rose is a color. WHat else? Goldie, Ruby, Rosa, Bianca (white), Coral, Scarlet. You could argue that Pearl of Crystal are colors.

  • Juliet says:

Sapphire is a pretty colour name, my friend is called Corrie Sapphire Beatrix which I think is cute ^^

Also I really don’t agree with the CEO barbie argument thing. I don’t see how it is promoting a bad thing, surely it is encouraging little girls to aim high and realise they can actually go for those roles.
Also who said Barbie had to be realistic? Just because girls might not go on to be a model or be a famous horse show jumper doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to daydream about it or play with those toys.

I love your blog and your wonderful posts.

  • Ashley says:

Sierra is a color. Amber, Jade, Rose, Violet, Kelly, Ivy, Olive, Cral, Scarlet, Apple, Sky, Sienna, Alice is a shade of blue, and that’s ll I can think of. :P

  • feedyourleech says:

I like all of the Harajuku Lovers fragrances. ^_^ One (Angel or Music) smelled like rubbing alcohol! I loved it! Yeah… I’m weird. But the alcohol smell faded away after a moment. T-T By the way have you been to the website? http://www.hlfragrance.com It’s super fun and you can request samples to your house!

  • Sunny says:

    That Barbie thing was ridiculous.
Most girls aren’t blonde haired blue eyed, have super long legs and perfect boobs.
I think its WONDERFUL to shoot for higher goals. And how it said girls will come crying to their moms when they don’t get promoted? Hopefully if you’re in that sort of a position, you’ll understand why you weren’t promoted, that you either need to work harder or understand there’s bad politics at hand, and be an adult about it, not blame Barbie. How silly =o!

  • Dena says:

I have to agree! Katy perry is AMAZING I dedicated an entire blog on myspace to her and her AMAZING style… Granted its the same hot pants and shirt but they are all so CUTE! And she pulls them off amazingly

The Harajuku Lovers fragrances are bad >_< they all smell like booze! lol its horrendous!

  • alex says:

    Here is some names !
    cadmium(caddy)
    indigo
    rose

  • Christie says:
