I decorated my house this way because I believe that a place you live in is a reflection of who you are, and vice versa. The project began last summer, when I got sick of living in the white walls, and turned into 7 months of tweaking, decorating, painting and repainting. Now it’s known as the Unicorn House – a place I finally fit in. :)

By the way, the unicorn on my wall is by the artist Tanya Levina. Her specialty is – you guessed it – horses. :)

AHHH! it’s so beautiful. it would be incredible to see it in person.
So gleeful and happy. :D
I LOVE your house, I’d so love to see it one day from the inside. It must be amazing to have all the possibilities to decorate a room the way you exactly want to do it. I have limited options, but I make the best of it.

I know what you mean! Growing up, I had to share a room with my sister, but at least we had our own room. Then I lived in a situation where I couldn’t decorate at all. So when we finally moved to this house, I decided to go nuts!!!
Love it love it love it all! ♥
My god, where did you get those beautiful shoes??

From SoleStruck, eBay and even Wet Seal! (those sequined heels)

yes – the shoes. MY GOD the shoes!!!! I am constantly on the lookout for shoes exactly like those….I am checking out the shops mentioned above as I type, but specifically the shoes with the unicorn heels, the glitter opalescent heels on the ends of the top shelf in the photograph (not the video), and the transparent ones you hold in the video. Please tell me where for each or I might actually die. You vixen!

Found the unicorn heels and these: http://www.wetseal.com/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=1103&subCategoryId=-1&productId=38498
but nothing like the orgasm-inducing collection of yours!
wow! was the response from my almost 2 year old. I love how bright it is with all the little details.

Awwwww :)))
Your house is very beautiful, and very girly. Does Mark have any say at all in how it looks? I’m fully aware he’s cool with everything, but, I gotta think he has some tastes that don’t exactly match yours. Does anything reflect who he is? Not just you?

Like, I guess what I’m trying to say is that from this video I could not tell at all you’re married. It looks like you’re single living and you’re awesomely girly and amazingly cute apartment. I see nothing of the both of you here.

Kristabelle Reply:

There’s already been a post about that:
http://www.doedeereblogazine.com/articles/a-man-among-unicorns
I think what she was trying to say by the picture is (and please correct me if I’m wrong) that he has no problem with what’s traditionally considered feminine (i.e. ‘girly’ colors). It’s better explained in the post I linked.
Kristi Reply:

She’s answered it before just go back into the blog and search.

Why should I have to go through the archives to get an answer to a question? I notice a few comments down she tells someone he has a gym upstairs, why couldn’t she have said that to me?
I think commenting with a photo in response to a question was rude and passive. But of course, I’m just “hating” on her, right? :P

Um no one says you were hating on her, now you’re just making things up. I just linked to it to save her the trouble of answering something she already has. I’m not sure why you feel the need to take everything so negatively, we were only trying to help and she did answer.

This just made me love you even more! Amazing stuff, please come to England and decorate my house please!! xx
Oh dear God!
Glee filled and sparkly, ♥ only the best!
And of course you do it the day after i search all over the web for some photographs of the inside of your house, only finding old flickr photos.
So beautiful! ♥
Gorgeous. c:
I really wish I had the opportunity and know-how to do something on that large of a scale.

Ashley, i get that you werent happy with Doe’s picture response, but I think you should just let it go now. The question has been answered.
My hubby is super blokey (Aussie slang word for very masculine), rugby playing sports fanatic. Despite this he doesnt mind that our house is strewn with kitchy plastic lawn flamingos, giant ice cream shaped lamps, glass cases full of Pullip dolls in the lounge room and every other room is filled with 70′s & 80′s kitsch toys or food shaped cushions and jars and more! It’s not what he’s interested in, but he knows it makes me happy and he’s happy with that :)
So I’m a very lucky person and so, evidently is Doe! :D
I’m sure Mark does have his own spaces in the house that are just his, but this is Doe’s blog and I think we all want to see her girly rooms in the house. But then again why stick to some pre-conceived notion that a man wouldnt like purple or unicorns? clearly he does since he lives there.

I. LOVE. IT. Loving your makeup throughout the whole video, too, girl! Did you paint that unicorn on the wall of your stairs? Sooo gorgeous, I want one!
Your home makes you seem to have peter pan syndrome. very child like and not matching an adult who is trying to run a business.
Doe Deere Reply:
August 31, 2010 at 4:47 pm
I don’t really see anything wrong with a Peter Pan syndrome, and I think my surroundings suit me just like my business suits me… Besides, what’s wrong with consciously inviting bright and happy things into your life?
Sophie-Emmanuelle Reply:

Sorry to give my opinion like that but… I think it would be wrong if Doe was really childish (in the bad sense) in her mind, but it’s looks like she’s a fully responsible adult. Her house and her clothes can look like child stuff, but well, as she’s running a make-up company, I think it shows her creativity. And so, even though my style is not as colorful as hers (a little bit more classical but still with colors), I think sometimes we just need to add a bit of fairytail to enjoy our life ! :D

OMG – if I could only do all that and run a business I’d consider it Superwoman Syndrom not Peter Pan :D – Childlike is good – they don’t go mucking things up with what’s “appropriate”
Maria Reply:

Anne, I’m almost 31 years old with a baby on the way and run a business too, but also have a love for child-like things. I always joke with my hubby that myself and the baby could share toys!
I have a similar aesthetic to Doe’s in my home (although no purple walls as yet). I collect 80′s toys and 70′s kitsch and have loads of similar things in my house. I do it because it’s fun and colours and vintage toys make me happy. Why should people fit into the ‘this is what an adult’s house looks like’ box? I have plenty of friends who do put themselves in this box and honestly, it’s completely boring and predictable:(
Imagine what Betsy Johnson would say if we told her to grow up and stop acting childish? She’d probably tell us to stick it, because thats what makes her her:)
I love the jewel encrusted eggs! Where did you get them?
Doe Deere Reply:
August 31, 2010 at 4:44 pm
You mean the Faberge eggs? I brought them from Russia but you can probably find them on eBay. Those used to be very popular for keeping jewelry, and one of mine even plays a music-box melody! What a treasure indeed.
oh and please tell us who did those paintings on your wall? Did you do it? Did you hire someone…or maybe a friend did it? Inquiring minds wanna know! :)

Wow, your house is amazing! Definitely inspiration for when I redo my room. (oh, to have my own place…) I’m sure you know how lucky you are to have a guy who supports that :)
It turned out wonderfully! I remember when you had white walls..and I love that you painted your bed frame and also the couch frame as well. Pretty!
Doe Deere Reply:

I can’t believe sometimes the walls used to be white, haha. The bed frame used to be black – until I spray painted it!!
This is the reason why I can’t wait to get my own house!! Decorating it will be so much fun!! Even if I’m married, I’m definitely going to have a space to myself for all sorts of gleeful things like this!

I love your house. I wouldn’t live in such place, cause it’s a little bit too much for my own style, but it really suits you and so everything looks so natural :) It seems you make your dream come true in this house.

Let’s see, being that I adore nearly anything to do with moons and stars, I LOVE the moon lamp and star curtain! The rainbow shoes near the front are also gorgeous, I think you referenced you purchased them at WetSeal but they are out *poutpout* who knows, maybe I’ll make my own.
Also, Puffy is a ‘pansy face’ yes? A hansa persian?

The bedroom is supposed to be all dream-themed. Everything that has to do with sleeping and dreaming (stars, moons, even sheep!). :)
Yep, Puffy is a flat-faced persian. The other one is Felix (the one I’m petting on the couch).
i have those measuring cups! adore your house Doe- so bright and colourful ^-^ love your eyemask as well- it’s so cute
oh wow Doe, youve created my dream house!i especially love the walk in wardrobe and your shoe area! can i come live with you? im only small, i wont take up that much room :3
i wish my bedroom could look like this, i have lots odf cool stuff to go in it, but my room lacks space because its an attick room, and very small which means it also gets messier quicker and ruins the kitsch look. but your whole house is like the stuff of my dreams! its just AH-MAAAZING im gawping at my computer screen!
you should be an interior designer! i wish i had the same decorating talents as you :)
sidenote: this house (and all the decorations) look like it must have been a pretty expensive project to undertake…
OK, first kudos to the ARtiste, but also to husband and kitties ;~)
I do have a question but I’m always late to these posts :/ – I have the inclination and skill (though totally different from yours) I just can’t figure out how to keep a house clean, organized and dust free.
Any suggestions?????
I’m definitly in love with your house. Since I recently found some cupcake shelving/coat hangers I’ve been itching for a redesign of my room. I’ll def be using you as an inspiration. (God forbid when I have my own house to do this to! haha xD)
This is really inspiring. I just moved into my own place alone and would like to decorate but have been too homesick and depressed to do anything but let empty pizza boxes pile up on the floor. I did buy a white desk though and I set up my stuffed animal collection which cheers me up a little. Thank you for such pretty pics-brightened my day some.
I LOVE YOUR HOUSE SO MUCH OMG YOU SHOULD DO TOURS!
Wicked awesome! Very inspiring.
Your house is so ridiculously amazingly freaking awesome! :)
Gorgeous!
What a amazing house. It’s perfect XD
I don’t know to say what part of your house is more beautiful!!!
Kisses
Only you can wear a unicorn horn and make it look chic! Love it!
And your house couldn’t be any cooler if it tried!
No, seriously, if you packed any more awesome into one space it might cause some sort of catastrophic implosion of the universe. The fabric of space-time probably can’t handle it all.
… oh well, implosion from awesome home decorating sounds like a great way to go to me, so keep at it! XD
Lovely house! I wish you would also post the original video without the music though, the whole time I was just thinking “What is she saying??” haha I was so interested in hearing your explanations.
This is *exactly* why I can’t wait to have my own space! I’ve got bits and pieces of furnishings that I’ve thrifted/had and repainted, and I get a lot of lip from my friends about it because I have a son and they’re “concerned” about how all the colours/eclecticness will effect him. I say; Screw ‘traditional’ gender roles!
I’m not super girly, but I’ll be darned if I don’t adore glitter, stars, and unicorns :P
If you had any spare time I would tell you to take up interior design! :)
If you had any spare time I would tell you to take up interior design! :)
._. I want to live with you, you’re home is so magical~
<3
I need their album btw.
I love their music, thank you so much for turning me into a fan of theirs!
You have such a lovely stair pattern, the lilac rail is great.
It’s amazing to see how Mark and you share so many aesthetic ideas that collide and bond yet still have your own space. Mine is my fridge, no one gets near my waffles

I love hula-hooping, it’s my favorite! Sometimes I’ll put on my favorite record and go for hours. :))) I’ve never tried dancing with it though!
Is your apartment 3 floors? It looks so big.
It’s not my style but your place is cute. Has your landlord seen your place? I’m surprised he/she didn’t have a problem with you painting the stairs. I was allowed to paint my apartment walls but I do know when I plan to move out I will have to repaint some of it because some new renters may not want to deal with a bright orange computer/art room or bright blue and apple green kitchen or the art deco mural on living room wall.
Ohhh, how pretty and fun!!! It totally fits your personality, and it’s so important for your home to feel like “you.” My absolute favorite parts are the staircase (looks like D’Lilac!!) and the iron bed. When I lived alone, I had a baby pink dining room, a turquoise living room, an orange kitchen, and floral prints EVERYwhere…it really looked like I lived in a dollhouse. My fiance wasn’t as into that look as Mark is when we bought our house. heehee But I was able to use all the same stuff by changing the look slightly and made it all into something we both feel comfortable with so that neither of us felt like we were giving up our own style. But sometimes I do miss that pink dining room! ;) All that matters is that you both like the look and feel comfy in your space as well. Great job!!
Your house is so beautiful! I love it, it must be like prancing through a fairytale every day! I have all white walls at the moment, but you’ve definitely inspired me–I want to live in color too!
Thank you for sharing this. I’m so jealous! You have this magically designed house AND a partner who is ok with ‘girly’ stuff. LOL Your home is really beautiful and everything is so professionally done. You guys must have had a blast working on it!
(I’m going to show this to my husband as an example of the awesome ways you can decorate a home and hopefully he will be inspired enough to at least let me do the kids’room.)
Will you be posting a version of the video with dialogue?
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I love the kitty-dishes!

Where did you buy your “Follow your dreams” eye mask from? It’s utterly adorable!
