And the winner of our Winter Challenge is… Miranda (entry #113)!
Submitted by a South Louisiana girl, it’s a personal narrative about the night it snowed for the first time in 20 years. The story is so touching, I teared up reading it. I always took the snow for granted and had no idea it was such an treasured experience to someone else.
There were so many incredible entries, I had a hard time choosing just one. We had art, costumes, makeup looks, stories, poetry, videos, even a song! Here are some of my other favorites (check them out in the original post):
- #20 Freya
- #52 Jen
- #53 Jessica
- #61 Samara
- #62 Priscillia
- #67 Nix
- #69 Megan J.
- #79 Chylde
- #105 Jackie
- #115 Ana
- #121 Ashley
- #133 Sinead
- #144 Lenora Jayne
Thank you everyone for participating! Muah!

Congratulations! ^^
Many congratulations to all the wonderful entries. I wish I was half as talented as the rest of you to have entered myself :) Great job everyone!
I am grinning like an idiot right now. I think that this shall be the best day ever. I wasn’t even going to check it till noon, and I was positive that it wasn’t going to be me. But then while I was on the phone with my grandmother my fiancee kept calling me so when I clicked over, he said “It’s important” and then read the entry too me. I haven’t stopped smiling since.
Like in the story it hardly ever snows here, and its never like it was the other night. We had a true snowstorm…it took three days for it to melt away. It was absolutely magical.
There were so many great entries that I just adored. And there are many makeup looks that I may give a try. ^_^
*SQUEE*
I’m sad cos I didn’t win, although I knew that I didn’t have possibilities, I feel frustrated cos i never win… well, it was a pretty experience and I wait for more contest
congrats miranda!
felicitaciones, me imagino que hablas espaƱol
congratulations miranda on winning! =). and thanks doe for mentioning me as one of the favorites, that was enough to make my day!
happy holidays everyone =).
I think I’ve seen this image before in a Spectrum or Expose art book. This guy (or is it a girl?) is a professional illustrator. I’m pretty sure this is an old image. I swear I’ve seen it before in a digital art book!
It’s still awesome though. The artist deserves to be recognized.
Oh duh. . . sorry. I thought that the image won. It’s a story that you have to search for under the submissions under the name “miranda.” Now I feel better. My mistake. I saw that image . . . and I knew I’d seen it before.
Congratulations, Miranda on your winning story!
Oh and I just love the illustration. The Snow Queen is one of my favorite stories of all time. I even have an LJ icon that says “There was no laughter in the snow queen’s halls.”
Miranda
Congrats, Miranda!
And thank you for mentioning my entry!!! :D
Awww congratulations Miranda! Thats so awesome!!!
-claps for you- You’re story was awesome!!! Yay
:D
Congratulations to the winner! And I’m excited that I was one of the favorites! =]
Oooh, The Snow Queen! My favourite!
And congrats to Miranda. :]
Congrats Amanda. That was a very sweet story. I live in pa and we get snow all the time usually but lately all it has been is rain. Yesterday it was 60 degrees outside. I personally hate the cold and snow but it’s the middle of december and it is actually depressing me that we really haven’t gotten any. 20 years without snow would drive me crazy haha.
And thankyou Doe for picking my shoes as one of your favorites ^_^ That was awesome to see.
Congrats to Miranda!
I’m sad, but oh well. I’m glad she can be happy about her win. (:
ever since I was little it was my dream to see snow. Play in snow, make a snowman, make a snow angel, have a snowball fight, catch a snowflake on my tongue. I remember I wanted it to snow so bad that I would have multiple dreams about it. Alas, no snow in FL and no traveling during winter resulting in never seeing snow. I still wish to see snow and I hope I will get a chance to someday soon.
It figures that it snowed today, the day after I needed it to.
Congratulations on winning, Miranda!
There were definitely lots of great entries submitted and I’m flattered to have my picture be one of your favorites, Doe!
I wish it would snow down here in FL, but luckily I’m traveling up north for Christmas this year so I get to play in some very soon.
*overly-excited* :)
Wow….That was an amazing story. I live in NC, And I am really hoping for some snow too…..That must have been so breathtaking, all that snow, and especially in Louisiana!
Haha, my mom came in as a read the post. (MaryAnne you’re not alone, I mistook the image as the winner as well! I was so confused…)
Then I think she felt bad for me (?) and asked to see what the makeup was.
She then raised her eyebrows (at the bright colors) and then told me she was glad I didn’t win.
Which is funny in it’s self, but also kinda sad cause now she’s not going to let me order any >_>
hmm, well, congrats Miranda! While I was going through the posts to see all the entries I had a really fun time reading your’s!
It was so very sweet, and flowed together well. ^-^
Congrats to Miranda!
You need to have more contests, Xenia!! lol I’m sad I didn’t win(Like many others.. lol). but goodness, that was fun to do anyway!
Congrats Miranda! I loved your entry it was awsome and made me realize how great snow can be! :D
Congrats to you Miranda and I’m so glad you got to enjoy snow as well as your younger siblings, I can’t imagine going for so long without any snow. When I was younger I practically ‘lived’ for the snow-days during Winter!! I got lucky though, even if my county didn’t have snow, but the one bordering us did, we got out of school for the day -it was great!:D
Thank you so much Xenia for mentioning my entry of “The Winter Faery Queen” costume and my Yule altar as amongst your favorite entries. That means alot to me and I’m so glad you liked it!:)
This was so much fun, I really enjoyed checking out the creative projects of others’, and I really hope you do something like this again in the coming future. Hopefully, this time, I’ll read about it with enough time to do something specifically for it!:D
Thanks again!!
Ps. -I also mistook the image as the winner.*laughs*
Oh, Miranda deserved to win. It was so heartfelt, and having grown up for a time in Tennessee, where it never, ever snows, I know exactly how she felt.
And thank you so much for mentioning mine in the runners up! My day is much more smiley now. :)
I think the last time we got snow in Ten. was 10 years ago…. And it REALLY snowed, but, it’s not done anything near that for ever.
flurries, and then melts… then rains.
Thanks so much for the mention on my makeup entry!
Aww, Miranda’s story reminds me of my friend from Texas who had never seen snow before she moved to New York!
I know exactly how she feels! I was in class at nursing school, and right after lecture was over about 15-20 students ranging in age from 22-33 ran outside to play like children. It was a good day.
Congratulations Miranda!!! You wrote a great story, I remember hearing about it snowing over there and I couldn’t believe it. Of course, I live in the desert and it’s never snowed in my hometown either. But I want to say how excited I was to be mentioned as a favorite. =) Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. =)
